Athens, the Sleepless

We had a very good first week in Athens. I loved it. We were busy from the first night. Hardly finished with the training on Wednesday we had the great opportunity to go visit Karim (member) for a small lesson and we did a little contacting by the way. Elder Uhlig's first contacting and teaching experiences. I think he liked it a lot. The first person he spoke to was a little lady and he just jumped in front of her and said "hello, do you know the Book of Mormon?" Naturally she was quite scared and scurried off very quickly xD. He took it well and after some helpful tips it went quite well after that and we got our first name that evening. xD
Mars Hill (Acts 17) on Elder Uhlig's first night.

I had a great experience of the hand of the Lord in my life on Sunday when we went to church (we are in Athens 2nd branch i.e. the English speaking branch and it is in the afternoon). We got into the Metro and sat down across from a man in a shirt and what looked like a Bible. He looked at our tags which is normal and then he looked away and I didn't think anything more of it. So as we progressed in our journey I got out my Greek New Testament to read a little. Not  two minutes later he spoke to me and asked me about my church. My favorite topic! XD We got talking and it turned out that he was pentacostle and he told me that he only believed in the Bible but explained the BoM to him and read the promise with him in Moroni. And just before we had to leave he asked for a card but declined the book. So I gave him one. Then the true miracle happened. As we got up to leave the man tapped my shoulder from behind and asked if he could have the Book of Mormon. Happily I left it to him and left for church. I really hope that more will develop out of this...

We also have a baptism planned for this Saturday. Richard and man from Ghana was taught by the missionaries that were in this area before and now he'll be baptized. I'm pretty excited. I got to do the baptismal interview with him and he is really full of faith and desire to serve God. He described how he hated reading the Book of Mormon before but as he did what the missionaries asked he started to love the book and reading it and he felt the Spirit as he did so. It was wonderful to see his conviction as he spoke of it.

Athens seem great and very exciting. I'm looking forward to all the things we'll accomplish here.
